Do you know about the culture scene in Stavanger?

ENTERTAINMENT, MUSIC & FOOD: The host city for the second stop of the 2015 Swatch Major Series this June 9–14 is known to many as Norway’s oil capital and a hub for business, but the colorful destination is much more than that! Here’s a tasteof the fun you can find in Stavanger when you visit.

Did you know that Stavanger and neighboring Sandnes were named the European Capital of Culture for 2008, along with Liverpool, England? The cultural life in Stavanger is diverse, with a wealth of opportunities – especially now when the nights are long and bright!

Brand-new concert hall

Stavanger Concert Hall opened less than three years ago, in September 2012, yet it has already become renowned not only as an architecturally magnificent building and world-class music venue, but further as the major cultural destination for the entire region. Situated by the sea amid the greenery of Bjergsted Culture Park, the Concert Hall showcases an extensive program of major, high-prestigeevents each year, as well as more intimate, small-scale performances. With Spiseriet, one of the country's best restaurants, within its walls, Stavanger Concert Hall is very much worth a visit – whether you're looking for adventures for the eye, ear or palate. Stavanger Concert Hall will be hosting a special series of events during the Swatch Major Series tournament, including a show by the great young Scottish  comedian Kevin Bridges on June 10.

The sound of alternative Stavanger

If you’re looking for something a little more alternative, Stavanger boasts a variety of popular music venues, rock pubs and interesting cafes. Tou SceneFolken and Checkpoint Charlie have all-urban programs with national and international artists. Bøker & Børst (translated Books & Booze), MartiniqueGnuCafe Sting, and Cementen are all unique places worth checking out if you find yourself in town on a clear summer evening and want to see an enjoyable, down-to-earth side of Stavanger.

Thai, sushi and halloumiburgers

Stavanger also offers an international menu of excellent food within a relatively small radius. A classic is Thai Cuisine Restaurant You’ll find primium sushi in several places around town, and if you’re looking for a blond beer with your Nigri, then Timbukthu and Hall Toll are both fine venues to fit the bill. Have you ever tasted halloumi? Do try it! And while you’re at it, why not try it on your burger? Or simply have a full-course meal at Tango, a place that has it all!

Bon appétit!
