Midday Update: First official day at the Stavanger Major!
We are well underway with the woman qualification today as the sunny weather hits Stavanger harbour full force.
The Brazilian guns Taiana de Souza Lima / Fernanda Berti met South Africas Pierangeli / Sitting in fresh morning light here at the first game at Centre Court Stavanger. Lima served the Brazilians to two solid round wins, winning the game with the scores 21-9 first set, 21-9 second set. Centre Court later harboured a close match between the Nystroms from Finland and Carico / Dicello from USA. The Americans won first set 21 – 19. But then the Finnish dug deep and took the game by winning the two next sets 21 – 15 and 18 – 16.
Court 4
Court 4 had the Japanese Team Take / Mizoe up against Gordon / Wilkerson from Canada. Take / Mizoe delives a solid 1. set, winning 21 – 11. In the 2. set the Canadians put up a good fight, but have to yield to Take / Mizoe in the end and Japan won 2. set 21 –14.
In the next match Austria’s Schützenhöfer / Plesiutschnig meet Kazakhstan’s Mashkova / Tsimbalova. The team from Kazakhstan early head into a lead and win first set 21 – 12. Second set starts out with the teams following each other point for point, and the two battles it out with both sides in the lead, until finally Kazakhstan wins 22 – 20.
Court 3
The Lithuanian team Povilaityte / Dumbauskaite fought a hard match against Rudykh / Barsuk from Russia by the waters edge in the Stavanger harbour. The Lituanians won after an exiting third set ending 16 – 14. In the second Court 3-game Polands Kolosinska / Brzostek won a tight fought match over Chinas M. M. Lin / Y. Y. Ma.
Court 2
Also Court 2 saw some action when Sweden’s own Thurin / Lundquist won over USAs Fopma / Summer 25 – 23 and 22 – 20. Later the Australian team Artacho Del Solar / Laird defeated Russian team Syrtseva / Prokopeva 21 – 18 and 21 – 19, both close matches.
